Jil Sira
Jil is a dancer and performer from Oslo, Norway. She started dancing at the age of 12, quickly falling in love with the performing arts and exploring a range of dance styles, movement, voice, and expression. She attended the street dance program at Edvard Munch high school in Oslo, where she learned the foundations of street styles like hip hop, popping, house, and breakdance, along with contemporary dance, jazz, and ballet. In 2021, Jil began her BA in contemporary dance at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO), where she performed in works by Paul Blackman and Christine Gouzelis, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Roza Moshtaghi, Yaniv Cohen, and Zsuzsanna Rózsavölgyi.
Jil has also developed her own work and co-choreographed with other dancers. She was part of creating “Discothèque,” an interactive club concept by seven dancers that explored the intersection of performative dance and club culture. She’s also part of the collective «Ønest», formed with former classmates, focused on open exploration, creation, and performance. In spring 2024, Jil graduated from KHiO and is currently a member of SUB.LAB.PRO The Ensemble Program.
Imagination, exploration and sensation drive my curiosity for movement and creation. I gather inspiration from multidisciplinary performance and other art forms. At the core, I identify as a contemporary dancer and performer, where there are few, if any, limits to what art can be. I see no boundaries for what I can create and become. I am passionate about crafting different worlds within a space, performing as both a character and a human. I research the body’s physical and emotional capacities, limits, and freedoms. I aim to create realms that invite the audience into immersive experiences. Through movement, voice, and expression, I am an explorer of the space where art and audience meet.
